AUTOMOBILES AND TECHNOLOGY
A 1939 Buick is shown driving past the Elephant Towers on Treasure Island on this advertising postcard. "At the Fair and Everywhere - Buick's the Beauty!"
Transparent Pontiac Sedan
The Transparent Pontiac Sedan was on display in the General Motors Building. The outer panels were made of Plexiglas, advertised at the time as "a new transparent plastic." The car was designed with chrome and copper plating, featuring bronze and enamel finishes. The Plexiglas exterior showed the structural design of the engine, dashboard and interior. The car was fully operable.
RCA issued a tabletop radio for both the San Francisco and New York world's fairs in 1939. The wooden cabinet had a pressed wood facing, with the Tower of the Sun made of Bakelite. A bridge is depicted, and the Pacifica statue can be seen to the right of the tower. This postcard was issued in the 1990s as part of a series on antique radios.
